Sandra Lee's Cowboy Tri-Tip
Notes
Third of six in the 2009 Tri-Tip Shootout. Sandra Lee's show hok is based around putting at least one blatantly storebought element into the recipe. I replaced the jarred sauce with some homegrown and it worked great. In this case, there's certainly no sin committed in using a prepared complicated base.

She's a polarizing figure -- I'm not much of a fan -- but this recipe came up fairly high in Google searches at the time and therefore demanded a try. Prety decent.
Ingredients
1 tri-tip roast

Dry Rub
2 Tbl chili powder
2 Tbl ground cumin
1 Tbl saltless seasoning pepper
1 Tbl onion powder
1 Tbl garlic powder

BBQ/Serving Sauce
1 26oz jar pasta sauce
1 Tbl chili powder
1 Tbl dry mustard
2 Tbl Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbl honey
Preparation
Mix together rub ingredients and coat tri-tip, using multipe passes if necessary. Juices will be drawn into the rub a bit so time is your friend here.

The sauce should be combined in a pot and brought to a boil before simmering for fifteen minutes. Split batch and use half for grilling mop and half for service. Baste roast every five minutes through process.
